![]() ![]() Perfect ratings mean a faster-climbing multiplier for trick combos, but they also factor into the level design in a pretty major way. Grinds are a little looser to execute, only requiring holding in one of four directions (again, potentially with one or more shoulder buttons as modifiers), but the same timing applies: move and hold the analogue stick at the last second and you’ll get a perfect rating, this time accompanied by green sparks and a speed boost. Tap X (or X and left or right for a manual) just before you hit the ground and you’ll be awarded a ‘perfect’ landing. The innovation is that you need to catch the trick to land it, and the later you catch it, the better the rating you get – from sloppy to perfect. The former are triggered with a flick or swirl of the left analogue stick (potentially with a shoulder button held down if it’s particularly complex). Forget steering: this is a left-to-right stream of skating consciousness, where you’re flowing gracefully from one mini set piece to the next, attempting to commune with the clever level design and trick mechanics.įlip tricks and grinds are the main tools of your trade. ![]() This is true Playstation synergy in action.Bluntslides are cool, but OlliOlli 2 introduces new tricks like darkslides.Įach of OlliOlli 2’s levels are short gauntlets, jam-packed with stair sets, rails, ramps, deadly obstacles and – in the case of the Titan Sky levels – towering robots, hovercars, and toxic ooze. You can also import your saves back and forth from both systems. You can buy this for your PS4 and get the Vita version free and vice versa. To sweeten the deal on this game, it is Cross-Buy and Cross-Save. Though you can really appreciate those crisp animations that much more on a HDTV through the PS4 a lot better. ![]() I prefer the Vita version personally as the bite sized levels are perfect for killing time on my break at work or while I’m out and about. The game is perfect for PS4 and for Vita. You never feel like it is the game’s fault that you beefed it on that last darkslide you tried to pull off. Your characters animations are fluid, precise, and accurate. ![]() It’s wonderful to look at while never being so distracting as to make you screw up a combo. The spot where you throw down your sick moves changes every day, so it keeps it fresh. Is that not enough content for you? Well lucky for you, they have a daily score combo challenge called the ‘Daily Grind’ where you can post your score against the world. In each of those levels there are different challenges for you to beat for both extra points, and bragging rights. There are five different stage themes and each of those stages have five levels on amateur and five levels for pro. Then you add on the layer of rotating in the air with the L and R buttons, as well as making sure you hit that X button perfectly every time, and you have yourself a complex combo system that would make the most seasoned Tony Hawk Pro Skater player blush. As the tricks become more complicated, the more you have to move the stick around. It’s very simple in design but the mastery of it takes serious skill. You use the left stick to set up tricks and grinds, and you hit the X button to stick your landings or bust into a manual to continue your trick combo. OlliOlli 2 is a 2d side scrolling skateboarding game. I usually only get this way with deep RPG’s, but with its precision controls and stylish look, OlliOlli 2 has its hooks in me but good. I am having severe trouble writing this review as every time I think about how great it is, I just go back and play it. OlliOlli 2: Welcome to OlliWood is one of the most addictive games to come out this year. ![]()
